nbn® speed uplift

We’re preparing to bring you our fastest home internet yet. From this September, eligible customers on nbn® FTTP and HFC connections can enjoy higher speeds.

All you need to know about nbn®’s upcoming speed increases

And yes, it’s a free upgrade*! We’re excited to share that nbn® is increasing the speeds of their top three residential wholesale tiers—Premium, Ultrafast, and Ultimate for customers on FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) and HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) connections. For existing eligible Moose customers, the following speed uplifts will occur:
  • Residential nbn® FTTP/HFC 100/20 plan to uplift to 500/50 Mbps
*If you are an existing customer on an eligible plan, the upgrade is automatic and free of charge, you will simply continue paying your usual monthly bill amount. For new customers, the following uplifted plans will be available after the upgrade date:
  • nbn® Home 500/50 Mbps (replacing FTTP/HFC 100/20 plan)

1. Are you eligible?

Higher speed plans are only available on nbn’s Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) technologies.

2. Prepare for upgrade

If you’re already on an eligible plan, we’ll automatically upgrade your speeds. If you aren’t, then check out if Fibre Connect is available in your area as an alternative.

3. Check your equipment

Delivering the new speeds is one part of the puzzle, the other is to make sure your equipment at home can keep up! For the ultimate internet experience, follow these simple optimisation tips below to ensure your equipment is set up correctly.

Wi-Fi tips for better speeds

  1. Check your router’s age: Is it more than 5 years old? Talk to us about whether your equipment is meeting your needs and maximising your download and upload speeds.
  2. Position it right: Keep it in the open, elevated and near where you use the internet most.
  3. Improve coverage: Wi-Fi weakens with distance. Consider a mesh network to extend Wi-Fi signal throughout your home.
What is changing?

Great news!

Great news! We’re excited to share that nbn® is increasing the speeds of their top three residential tiers—Fast, Superfast, and Ultrafast. Additionally, Moose will be uplifting customers on nbn® Elite. These changes will apply to customers on FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) and HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) connections.

For existing eligible Moose customers, the following speed uplifts will occur:

  • Residential nbn® FTTP/HFC 100/20 plan to uplift to 500/50 Mbps
Why is this change happening?

“Australians are consuming more data than ever before and faster, higher-capacity broadband supports more high- and super-high-definition video streaming and video conferencing, and smoother and lower-latency gaming, particularly when multiple devices are connected simultaneously.

“The network upgrades and accelerated wholesale speed tiers aim to make Australia ‘future-ready’ for the myriad applications that are on the horizon, including the anticipated rise of Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.”

– Anna Perrin, Chief Customer Officer at nbn® Co.

When is the change taking place?

nbn® and Moose will make the uplifts from 14th September 2025.

Will this cost extra?

No, eligible plans will receive the upgrade at no additional cost.
However, if you are on an ineligible plan you may incur a cost to improve your speed and or/ technology.

I already have nbn® FTTP or HFC — how do I get the speed upgrade?

If you’re on the eligible nbn® Elite FTTP or HFC plan, your speed will be upgraded automatically at no cost. More communications to follow.

I don’t have a nbn® FTTP or HFC connection – can I still get the speed upgrade?

The upgrade is only available to customers on FTTP or HFC connections – but your address may be ready to upgrade to an eligible connection type. You can give our friendly team a call at 1300 566 673 to confirm.

What about other nbn® plans?

If you’re on a plan below 100/20 Mbps and not on either FTTP or HFC, there will be no change in speed. However, your address may be ready to upgrade to an eligible connection type or speed. You can check your address by giving our friendly team a call at 1300 566 673 to confirm.

What do I need to be ready for the change?

Visit the nbn® links below to check the readiness of your home/office:

Can I opt out of the speed upgrade?

No, if you’re on an eligible plan, the speed upgrade will be applied automatically and at no cost to you. However, you’re free to change your plan at any time.

Can I keep my current plan/speeds and pay less?

All eligible plans will be automatically upgraded at no cost. Once this has occurred, your old plan/speeds will no longer be available, so we are unable to accommodate a discount to retain lower speeds.

How will I know the change has been completed?

If you are a Moose customer on an eligible plan, we will keep you informed on the progress of the upgrades.

Will this upgrade improve my Wi-Fi coverage?

No, this upgrade affects speed, not coverage. To improve Wi-Fi coverage, consider upgrading to a better router or using a mesh network.

What other factors might affect my experience with new speeds?

Your nbn® service provides your connection to the internet, but your internal set-up helps shape your online experience in your home or business – it can also have an impact on the speed and reliability of your connection.

Will this uplift resolve pre-existing faults?

The speed uplift will not resolve physical faults. Factors like distance, walls, and interference inside your home can still affect performance, however you may see an improvement depending on the type of interference.
